Based in Rio de Janeiro, where he lives and develops his artistic practice, the artist studied at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (EAV Parque Lage). His career began to take shape during the 1990s through subtle interventions and poetic gestures initially conceived within the intimate environments of his home and studio.
Over the course of his career, his work has been featured in major exhibitions and biennials in Brazil and abroad. Selected presentations include the 25th São Paulo Biennial in 2002; the 17th Cerveira Biennial in Portugal in 2013; The Nature of Things — Biennial of the Americas, held in Denver, United States, in 2010; the Panorama da Arte Brasileira at the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo in 2007; and the 5th Havana Biennial in Cuba in 1994.
His international exhibition history also encompasses projects presented at a range of prominent institutions. These include Cruzamentos: Contemporary Art in Brazil at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, United States, in 2014; SAM Art Project in Paris, France, in 2012; The Peripatetic School: Itinerant Drawing from Latin America at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art in England in 2011; an exhibition at the Museo de Arte del Banco de la República in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2012; and Constructing Views: Experimental Film and Video from Brazil at the New Museum in New York in 2010.
The artist's work is held in significant institutional and private collections in Brazil and internationally, including the Colección Isabel y Agustín Coppel in Mexico City; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland; Fundação Joaquim Nabuco in Recife; the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art in England; the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo (MAC USP); the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (MAM Rio); and the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, among others.
