Ana Prata

Ana Prata, born in 1980 in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a contemporary artist known for her colorful figurative paintings. Her work is marked by a latent ambiguity, exploring themes such as humor, interiority, and a critical spirit. Recently, she has focused on still lifes, depicting fruits and objects that appear disconnected from the landscape. Her approach to modernism is neither reverential nor nostalgic but rather investigative, akin to an archaeologist distorting modern symbols and incorporating them into her contemporary painting.

Ana Prata graduated in Visual Arts from the University of São Paulo (USP). She has held solo exhibitions in significant cultural spaces such as Centro Cultural SESC Pompéia (São Paulo, 2022), the São Paulo Biennial (2018), Isla Flotante Gallery (Buenos Aires, 2019), and Pippy Houldsworth Gallery (London, 2016). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art at USP and Instituto Tomie Ohtake. She was nominated for the PIPA Award in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, and was a resident artist at Red Bull Art House (São Paulo, 2011) and at Unlimited Residence (New York, 2016).

Her work is part of international collections, including the Pinault Collection, Jorge Pérez Collection (Miami), the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, MAC São Paulo, and Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz in Ribeirão Preto. She lives and works in São Paulo.
