Zenilda Petuba

Zenilda Petuba, born in 1963 in Arapiraca, Alagoas, along with her sisters Zenaide (1965) and Zeneide (1967), inherited the tradition of working with fabrics and embroidery from their mother, Marinete (1944). Marinete, who started as a seamstress, would create fabric dolls for her daughters using leftover materials. In 1993, the Petuba sisters began their artistic journey under the guidance of professor Zezito Guedes, sculpting stones in Arapiraca. Inspired by their mother, the sisters presented their fabric dolls at the ARTENOR fair in Maceió, where they were encouraged to continue their work with textiles and embroidery.

Today, the Petuba family is renowned for producing embroidered panels and tapestries using fabric fragments to depict scenes of rural life and childhood. Their works are celebrated for their unique ability to compose, create perspectives, and use colors in a harmonious and captivating way.
