Rochelle Costi was born in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, in 1961. She is a photographer and multimedia artist known for her exploration of various techniques and themes.

Education and Early Career:
Rochelle graduated in social communication from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUC/RS) in Porto Alegre in 1981. The following year, she spent six months in Belo Horizonte, attending art workshops at the Guignard School and a course on 19th-century photographic processes at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Upon returning to Porto Alegre, she began creating installations that combined photographs and collected objects such as ashtrays, suitcases, glass, and lamps. In 1983, she held her first solo exhibition, "Tentativa de Vôo," at the Museum of Art of Rio Grande do Sul Ado Malagoli (Margs), marking the start of her presence in exhibitions in other states of Brazil. During this period, she also worked as a theater and music photographer.

Career Development:
In 1988, Rochelle moved to São Paulo, where she worked in editorial photography. Between 1991 and 1992, she lived in London, studying at Saint Martin School of Art and Camera Work. Her work in newspapers and magazines provided her with broad access to various environments, stimulating her research on private spaces and resulting in photographic series documenting house facades and interiors.

Recognition and Exhibitions:
Rochelle participated in the 24th São Paulo International Biennial in 1998 and the 6th and 7th Havana Biennials in 1997 and 1999, respectively, as well as other international exhibitions. In 1997, she received the Marc Ferrez Photography Award from the National Art Foundation (Funarte) and, three years later, the Vitae Foundation Art Scholarship. Her work is recognized for its ability to create visual narratives exploring the relationship between space and memory, using a unique and poetic approach.
