Jacques Douchez, a painter and tapestry artist, arrived in Brazil in 1947 and settled in São Paulo. From 1951, he joined Samson Flexor's (1907-1971) Atelier-Abstraction, where he began exploring abstract painting. He participated in the 2nd São Paulo Biennial and the 1st Exhibition of Atelier-Abstraction at the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB/SP) in 1953. In 1957, in addition to continuing his journey in painting, he began his production in tapestry, collaborating with Norberto Nicola (1930-2007) at the Ateliê Douchez-Nicola. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, his tapestries, which progressively became three-dimensional, were displayed at various biennials in São Paulo, as well as in individual and collective exhibitions. He also participated in the 3rd Medellín Biennial, the 7th Lausanne Tapestry Biennial, and the 1st Tapestry Triennial of São Paulo, where he was awarded. In 1980, Ateliê Douchez-Nicola ceased its activities, but Douchez continued to produce woven forms. In 1989, he held the exhibition "Jacques Douchez - Woven Sculptures" at the Galeria Múltipla de Arte, São Paulo. In the 1990s, he resumed painting, remaining faithful to abstraction. In 2003, he presented two major exhibitions: "Plan and Relief" at the São Paulo State Pinacoteca and "Woven Sculptures" at the BM&F Brasil Cultural Space, São Paulo.
