Bernardo Cid (São Paulo, SP, 1925 - 1982) was a Brazilian painter, sculptor, draftsman, and printmaker, primarily self-taught. He began his artistic career with a solo exhibition in 1952 at the Ambiente Gallery in São Paulo. In 1959, Cid won a sculpture competition organized by the Brazilian Book Chamber, and was responsible for designing the statuette for the Jabuti Award. Throughout the 1960s, he was an active member of the Magic Realism group alongside Wesley Duke Lee and participated in the Austral group, an offshoot of the Phases movement from Paris. In 1965, he participated in the Propostas 65 exhibition at the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (Faap) in São Paulo, and exhibited at the 5th and 8th São Paulo International Biennials in 1959 and 1965, respectively. He was awarded at the 17th São Paulo Modern Art Salon in 1968 and served as a guest artist at the National Biennial 76 at the São Paulo Biennial Foundation in 1976. In 1997, his work was included in the exhibition "Phases: Surrealism and Contemporaneity, Austral Group and Southern Cone" at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC/USP).
