Rogério Reis, born in 1954, is a renowned Brazilian photographer whose career is marked by a strong influence of photodocumentation and a focus on urban issues, especially in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Education and Career:
Reis discovered photography in the 1970s, studying with Professor George Racz at the MAM-RJ school workshops and with photographer Dick Welton. In the 1980s, he was part of the F4 group, which sought self-sufficiency in the production and distribution of their works, and participated in group exhibitions at INFOTO - National Institute of Photography of FUNARTE. He graduated in Social Communication from Universidade Gama Filho and worked as a photographer for major media outlets such as Jornal do Brasil, O Globo, and Veja. Between 1991 and 1996, he was the photo editor of Jornal do Brasil. Since 2000, he has been the editor of the website www.tyba.com.br.

His works are part of important collections, including the Joaquim Paiva Collection (1989), MASP/Pirelli-São Paulo (1995), Douglas Nielsen Collection-Minnesota (1996), MAM-São Paulo (1999), The Fogg Art Museum-Cambridge (1999), Danforth Museum of Art-Framingham (2000), MAM-Rio de Janeiro (2002), Maison Européenne de la Photographie-Paris, MAR-Rio de Janeiro (2015), and the National Museum of Fine Arts-Buenos Aires (2016).

Recognition and Legacy:
In 2002, his famous photograph of the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade on Copacabana beach (1982) was reproduced in bronze as a statue (by Leo Santana) and installed in the same location where the photo was taken. In the same year, he inspired and lent his name to the photographer character in the film "City of God," directed by Fernando Meirelles and based on the book by Paulo Lins.
