John Vincent Nicholson (Comanche, Texas, 1951) is an influential American painter who settled in Brazil in the late 1970s. After completing his studies in fine arts at the University of Houston and the University of Texas during the 1960s and 1970s, Nicholson moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1977.

Life and Career:
Nicholson began teaching painting at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage in 1980. During this time, he played a crucial role in shaping the so-called Generation 80, a Brazilian artistic movement that celebrated painting and expressiveness. He collaborated with Luiz Aquila and Cláudio Kuperman on the production of "Grande Tela," a work that exemplifies the vibrant and innovative spirit of Generation 80.

Nicholson also had a significant influence on several emerging artists from this era, including Cristina Canale, Adriana Varejão, and Daniel Senise, who became important figures in the Brazilian art scene. His contribution to the development and dissemination of new ideas in painting established him as one of the influential masters of Generation 80.
