Wellington Virgolino

Wellington Virgolino was born in Recife, Pernambuco, on September 19, 1929. Although his birth name was "Virgulino," spelled with a "u," he signed his works as "W. Virgolino," with an "o." From a young age, he showed a passion for painting, using watercolors and ink to create caricatures of his classmates, teachers, and siblings.

He studied until the first year of high school at Ginásio Pernambucano, one of the best public schools in the city. There, he met and became friends with painter Vicente do Rego Monteiro, who provided him with valuable advice on painting.

As a student, Wellington Virgolino also created comic strips inspired by popular serials like Aranha Negra, Flash Gordon, Jim das Selvas, and O Fantasma Voador, which he watched at the Politheama and Ideal cinemas.
