Silveira

Juliana Silveira, a Brazilian visual artist, was born in 1999 and is currently pursuing a degree in Visual Arts at Belas Artes University in São Paulo. She has international experience and has taken extracurricular courses in various artistic practices. In 2015, she studied Design Studio at Parsons School of Design, and in 2016, she completed an “Acting for the Camera” course at UCLA – University of California Los Angeles. In 2017, she attended an artistic drawing course at Escola Panamericana. Juliana participated in the group exhibition “Vão Livre” at ISLA in June 2018. Currently, she works with abstract expressionist drawings and paintings, exploring gesture, the body, and elements of nature. For her, painting is an extension of the body, expanding beyond the boundaries of time and space, giving shape to epiphanic moments.

Since 2020, Juliana has focused on large-scale paintings, and in 2024, she began exploring performance art combined with painting, allowing the body to become part of the artwork. The line is no longer just a mark on a surface; it manifests as movement, voice, and physical presence. Breath guides the gesture, and dance traces spatial paths that inscribe themselves poetically on the canvas. Drawing becomes a multisensory event, not just a visual mark.

“My body of work is based on the nakedness of the soul and spirit. Everything in nature is alive, radiating an intangible essence. The female body as a portal between heaven and earth. The human experience converses with the divine to the point of merging with it, where the visible and invisible become one, dancing in perfect harmony. Nature’s dance exists between death and life, deconstruction and creation. The wildness of the soul freed from the reins of domination over essence.

All creation can be subject to chaos and tension, to the death of what no longer exists, to forms subject to impermanence, making way for the new. The unknown takes shape, emerging from mystery, from nothingness, from space. Space is needed for nature to dance. In this empty and receptive space, nature can act freely, without human interference.”

“The process of creating my paintings comes from a bodily, intuitive, and instinctive place. Spirituality, music, and nature are at the core of my practice. It is about peeling away unreal layers, like clouds that block the deep, true vision of the inner sun. A dialogue takes place within the depths of my being: what does it mean to be naked in body and soul? How can my body converse with my entire artistic production so that I am not separate from creation, but rather we share the same source? It is about merging with creation, not as a separate entity, but as the essence of my being, which is nature itself. When I paint, I surrender to the intelligence of my soul to guide me through a non-linear, deeply devotional process. It is, without a doubt, a very bodily work. We are living forces of nature. The volcano, the thunder, the rain, the rivers, and the ocean live within us. This dance of explosion with fluidity, of strength and softness, of death and life, of deconstruction and creation, is always present.”
