Rubens Matuck

Illustrator, engraver, painter, sculptor, designer, graphic designer, teacher.

He graduated in architecture at the University of Architecture and Urbanism of São Paulo (FAU / USP) in 1977. He attends painting workshops by Aldemir Martins (1922-2006) and Flexor (1907-1971); of engraving by Evandro Carlos Jardim (1935) and Renina Katz (1925), and sculpture by Van Acker (1931-2000).
In the 1980s, he completed his training with photogravure courses, with Thereza Miranda (1928); of photographic language, with Claudius Kubrusly; of paper-making, with Otávio Roth (1952-1993); and oil painting, with Jorge Mori (1932). Between 1968 and 1994, he worked as an illustrator for several newspapers and magazines. He also produces logos, typography works, illustrations and covers for children's books.
In 1979, he founded Editora João Pereira, in São Paulo, with Feres Lourenço Khoury (1951), Luise Weiss (1953) and Rosely Nakagawa. He writes and illustrates a series of children's books, such as The Cerrado, The Pantanal, The Amazon, 1987 series; Everything Is Seed, 1993. In 1993, he received the Jabuti Prize for the illustration of the children's book O Sapato Furado, by Mario Quintana (1906-1994).
