Marco Buti

Marco Buti (Empoli, Italy, 1953) is a printmaker, draftsman, and professor who moved to Brazil in 1962. He graduated in visual arts from the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP) in 1980. In 1984, he attended the lithography course taught by Regina Silveira at ECA/USP.

From 1986 to 1995, Buti taught printmaking and drawing at the Department of Visual Arts at the Institute of Arts of the State University of Campinas (IA/Unicamp), where he was one of the key figures in setting up the printmaking studio. In 1990, he received the acquisition prize at the 9th Curitiba Printmaking Exhibition. He completed his master's degree in visual arts at ECA/USP in 1994 and began teaching printmaking and drawing at the same institution in 1995. That year, he published the book "Marco Buti, Coleção Artista da USP" by Edusp.

Buti was awarded the printmaking prize by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA) in 1997 and received the Internazionale di Biella per l'Incisione prize in Biella, Italy, in 1999. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he participated in numerous group exhibitions and held several solo exhibitions, including the show "Ir, Passar, Ficar," which presented the conclusion of his doctoral thesis at the São Paulo Cultural Center (CCSP) in 1999.

Marco Buti is known for his skill in printmaking and drawing, and his work as both a professor and artist has significantly contributed to the development of visual arts in Brazil.
