Luzia Simons

Visual artist, photographer, and professor.

Luzia Simons was born in 1953 in Ceará, Brazil, and currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. In 1976, she moved to Paris, France, where she completed her degree in History at the University of Paris VIII - Vincennes in 1978. She continued her studies in Paris, pursuing a degree in Fine Arts at the University of Paris I - Sorbonne from 1984 to 1986.

In 1986, Simons moved to Germany and settled in Stuttgart. Throughout her career, she has developed a multifaceted body of work that includes photography, film, and performances. Additionally, she teaches at the Figurentheater Department of the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart.

Simons is known for her work exploring themes such as identity, memory, and displacement. In her photographic projects, she employs various techniques to create images that are both poetic and critical. Her most renowned work is the "Stockage" series, in which she scans flowers in high resolution, creating images that challenge conventional perceptions of photography and botanical art. This series explores the intersection of nature, culture, and technology, reflecting on the fragility and beauty of the natural world.

Simons has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums worldwide, including Germany, France, Brazil, and other countries. Her exhibitions include significant solo and group shows, establishing her name in the international visual arts scene.
