Luiz Antonio Da Silva

Luiz Antonio Da Silva

Brazil - 1935

Luiz Antônio da Silva was born in the city of Caruaru in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. The artist began working with clay with his mother, who produced plates, however, da Silva’s first formal artistic training came from Mestre Vitalino, who helps him perfect his technique. Aside from creating typical local figures, the artist also specialized himself in representing urban themes, especially those pertaining to the takeover of machinery in day-to-day life. Da Silva’s work is easily identifiable, as he created scenes that had never been reproduced before: the photographer, electricians fixing power cables, automobiles, trains and in factories.
