Klaus Mitteldorf

Klaus Werner Mitteldorf, born in São Paulo in 1953, is a renowned Brazilian photographer. He graduated in architecture from the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo Brás Cubas, Mogi das Cruzes, in 1979, but never pursued a career in architecture. His interest in photography began in the 1970s when he worked as a surf photographer, contributing to Brasil Surf and Surfing magazines.

In the 1980s, Klaus Mitteldorf expanded his career into fashion and advertising photography. During this period, he collaborated with prestigious magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Playboy, both in Europe and Brazil, and worked for major advertising agencies like DPZ, Almap BBDO, Lew Lara, J. W. Thompson, Lowe Worldwide, and McCann Ericsson.

In 1998, Mitteldorf held the exhibition "O Último Grito" at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, marking the beginning of a more experimental phase in his career. This phase was characterized by the technical precision he had already demonstrated in his fashion and advertising photography. He published several books throughout his career, including "Norami" (1989), "Klaus Mitteldorf Photographs" (1992), "O Último Grito" (1998), "Katharsis" (2001), and "Introvisão" (2006).

Klaus Mitteldorf's work has gained international recognition, and he has received numerous awards, including three Nikon Awards (1980, 1982, and 1986), the Conrado Wessel Foundation Photography Prize (2002), third place at the Rome International Art Biennial (2008), and the Higashikawa International Photo Festival Overseas Prize for his exhibitions and books "O Último Grito" (1998) and "Introvisão" (2008).
