Jorge Macchi (b. 1963, Buenos Aires, Argentina) lives and works in Buenos Aires.
Since the mid-1980s, his work has been shown throughout the Americas and Europe. In 2001, he was the recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. In 2003, Macchi’s work was included in both the 4ª Bienal do Mercosul in Porto Alegre, Brazil and the 8th Istanbul Biennial. He has been included in numerous museum exhibitions such as “Brave New Worlds,” the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2007); “It’s the End of the World as We Know it,” Kunsthalle Mulhouse Centre d’Art Contemporain, Mulhouse (2010) and “All of this and nothing.” Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2010). In 2011, Macchi’s work was included in the 11th Biennale de Lyon and the 12th Istanbul Biennial.
Solo exhibitions include: “The Anatomy of Melancholy,” 6ª Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre and Blanton Museum of Art, Austin (2007); “Piscina,” Inhotim Centro de Arte Contemporânea, Brumadinho (2009); “Crónicas Eventuales,” Galería Ruth Benzacar, Buenos Aires (2010). In 2011 Macchi was the subject of a survey exhibition “Music Stands Still” at S.M.A.K, Ghent. In 2012, his work was shown in 18th Biennale of Sydney and 7th Liverpool Biennial. In 2013, Alexander and Bonin presented Macchi’s first solo exhibition in New York titled “Loop.” He was the subject of a one person exhibition “Prestidigitador” at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Mexico City in 2014. In 2015, Le 19, Centre Régional d'Art Contemporain de Montbéliard held a solo exhibition of his work titled “Spectrum.” In 2016 his work was the subject of a solo exhibition at Museo de Arte Latinoamericano (MALBA), in Buenos Aires, which traveled to the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Madrid in February 2017.
