João Atanásio

João Atanásio (Maranhão, 1948) is a Brazilian artist who graduated from Santa Úrsula University. He furthered his studies in engraving at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and at the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage. From 1985 to 1987, he lived in Spain on a scholarship, attending the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid and working in the engraving workshops of the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art. Atanásio is deeply committed to both the practice and theoretical study of engraving. His work is characterized by its experimental and investigative nature, employing traditional techniques and alternative materials that go beyond the conventional limits of engraving. Throughout his career, he has frequently presented his works in significant national and international exhibitions.
