GTO

Geraldo Teles de Oliveira, known as GTO (Itapecerica, Minas Gerais, 1913 - Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, 1990), was a prominent Brazilian sculptor. GTO came from a humble family and had several occupations before dedicating himself to art, including being a rural worker and night watchman. He held his first individual exhibition in 1967 at the Galeria Guignard in Belo Horizonte, and since then participated in various important exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, including the Bienale Formes Humaines at the Musée Rodin in Paris, in 1974, and the Venice Biennale, in 1980. His work addresses regional themes such as religious festivals and dances from the interior of Minas Gerais. GTO's contribution to art has been recognized in various books and films, and his sculptures continue to be featured in major exhibitions.
