The following year, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he studied engraving with Oswaldo Goeldi (1895 - 1961) at the National School of Fine Arts - Enba.
Possessor of great technical domain, he dedicates himself to the realization of textures elaborated with linear rhythms in his works. In 1965, he settled in Olinda.
He teaches woodcutting at the Federal University of Paraíba - UFPA. In 1968, with the trip abroad prize obtained at the 17th National Salon of Modern Art, it remains for two years in Europe. In 1971, he is invited by Ariano Suassuna to join the Armorial Movement, focused on the popular northeastern culture and cordel literature. His production is marked by the recovery of the Northeastern folk novel, through cordel literature and the creative use of woodcut. His engravings are populated by biblical characters and others, from legends and local narratives, as well as fantastic and mythical animals. With the introduction of a new theme, it introduces a formal simplification in its work, reducing the use of color and textures.
