Flávia Junqueira

Flávia Junqueira (São Paulo, 1985) is a Brazilian visual artist who lives and works in São Paulo. Her practice has developed primarily within photography and the visual arts, bringing together different experiences in artistic research, education, and professional practice.

She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Poetics from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP). Throughout her career, Junqueira has participated in a number of educational programs and artist residencies in Brazil and abroad. In Ukraine, she took part in a residency project organized by the Izolyatsia Platform for Cultural Initiatives in Donetsk, curated by Boris Mikhailov. In Paris, she was an artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts through a fellowship awarded by FAAP.

In 2010, she participated in the PIESP Program at Escola São Paulo. Her professional experience also includes working as a scenography assistant at Espaço Cenográfico in São Paulo, directed by J. C. Serroni. Her academic background further includes postgraduate studies in Photography at FAAP’s School of Communication. She has also taught Art Direction and Photography in the Audiovisual Production program at Faculdade Méliès.

Her exhibition history encompasses projects presented by institutions, festivals, and artistic programs in Brazil and internationally. Highlights include Culture and Conflict: IZOLYATSIA in Exile at the Palais de Tokyo; the World Bank Art Program; the Kaunas Photo Festival; and her solo exhibition Tomorrow I Will Be Born Again at the Cité Internationale des Arts. She has also participated in Una Mirada Latinoamericana, associated with PhotoEspaña; the Temporada de Projetos at Paço das Artes; the Prêmio Energias na Arte at Instituto Tomie Ohtake; and the Nova Fotografia program at the Museu da Imagem e do Som de São Paulo (MIS-SP).

Other significant experiences include her participation in the Concurso Itamaraty, a residency at Red Bull House of Art, and projects developed through Ateliê Aberto at Casa Tomada.

Junqueira’s works are held in the collections of institutions and cultural organizations including the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM-SP), Museu da Imagem e do Som de São Paulo (MIS-SP), Museu de Arte Brasileira da FAAP (MAB-FAAP), Museu do Itamaraty, Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz, and Red Bull Station, among others.

Flávia Junqueira is represented by Zipper Galeria in São Paulo, Galeria Quadra in Rio de Janeiro, and Bossa Gallery in Miami.
