Falves Silva

Falves Silva [Cacimba, Brazil, 1943] is a renowned Brazilian artist and one of the pioneers of the Poema/Processo movement. Alongside figures like Moacyr Cirne, Wlademir Dias Pino, Álvaro de Sá, and Neide Sá, he participated in the inaugural manifesto of the movement in 1967. His influence and contribution to Brazilian art were recognized in 1981 when he participated in the XVI São Paulo Biennial curated by Walter Zanini.

Since the 1980s, Falves Silva has been an active member of the international Mail Art network, establishing intense and productive dialogues with artists from different generations and nationalities, including Jota Medeiros, Ivald Granato, Leonhard Frank Duch, Paulo Bruscky, Hudinilson Jr, Clemente Padín, Edgardo Antonio Vigo, Ulises Carrión, and Horácio Zabala. His works have been showcased in renowned events such as the International Mail Art Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan, in 1984, and the II Mail Art Biennial in Spain in 1999.

Recently, Falves Silva was featured with his solo exhibition titled "Circle of Time," a retrospective of his career, held at the São Paulo Cultural Center. His artistic production can be understood as a convergence between two main axes of Brazilian art: concrete movements and conceptual art. The artist establishes dialogues with literature, cinema, and comics, manipulating communicative structures and images from art history and mass communication. Through this diverse approach and treatment of chosen materials, Falves Silva creates unique and impactful artworks.
