Dora Smék

Dora Smék is a visual artist who conducts in-depth research on the human body, exploring its presence in contexts of opposition, movement, tension, and fluidity. With strong ties to dance, her work delves into themes such as the unconscious and sexuality, expressed through sculptures, installations, photographs, videos, and performances. In her works, the body, particularly the female body, is often fragmented, prompting reflection on identity, femininity, uniqueness, and the relationship between body and mind.

Dora Smék holds a Master's degree in Visual Arts from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) (2019) and a degree in Body Arts from PUC-SP (2011). She was awarded the 47th Luiz Sacilotto Contemporary Art Salon Prize in Santo André (2019). Her solo exhibitions include: "Opositores" at Central Galeria - São Paulo (2022) and "A dança do corpo sem cabeça" also at Central Galeria - São Paulo (2021). Notable group exhibitions include: "Arte em Campo" at the Pacaembu Stadium - São Paulo (2020); "No presente, a vida (é) política" at Central Galeria - São Paulo (2020); "Arte Londrina 8" in Londrina (2020); "Hinter dem Horizont" at Reiners Contemporary Art/Sammlung Jakob - Freiburg (2020); "Cuerpos Atravesados" at Reiners Contemporary Art - Marbella (2020); "Mulheres na Arte Brasileira: Entre Dois Vértices" at CCSP - São Paulo (2019); and "13ª Verbo" at Galeria Vermelho - São Paulo (2017). Her works are part of important public collections, including the MAR - Museum of Art of Rio de Janeiro, and the National Museum of Fine Arts - Rio de Janeiro.
