Cafi

Born in Pernambuco in 1950, this artist studied engraving and painting at the Escolinha de Arte do Brasil and began his career in photography at the age of 20. Throughout the 1970s and 1990s, he made his mark on the Brazilian music scene by creating over 260 album covers for prominent artists such as Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, Beto Guedes, Geraldo Azevedo, Nana Caymmi, Toninho Horta, Fagner, Sarah Vaughan, Francis Hime, Jards Macalé, Turibio Santos, Cristina Buarque, Lô Borges, Blitz, Alceu Valença, among others.

A founder of the cultural production group "Nuvem Cigana" with Ronaldo Bastos, he was also active at Circo Voador, where he edited the newspaper Expresso Voador and founded the Galeria das Artes. As a photographer, he participated in over 30 exhibitions on Brazilian themes, often collaborating with architect Gisela Maganhães in notable exhibitions like "Sete Brasileiros" (UNB), "Carrancas do São Francisco" (MAM, MASP), "Índios Kráo" (MAM, MASP), "Salve Getúlio" (Museu da República), and "Macunaíma" (Sesc).

Moreover, he was part of the National Cultural Reference Center (CNRC) alongside Aloísio Magalhães and collaborated on publications and exhibitions with renowned figures such as Miguel do Rio Branco, Walter Firmo, and Pedro de Moraes, with texts by Darcy Ribeiro. His work is also extensively published, including the "Os Brasileiros" postcard series, and contributions to international and national publications like "A Look at Paraty, Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande", "Brezil" by Flamarion (Paris), "Imagem do Som" by Chico Buarque, and "Imagem Escrita", a collaboration with Pedro Bial.
