The Nocturnal Light of the Delta

Alejandro Chaskielberg, born in Buenos Aires in 1977, began his journey in photography as a photojournalist, contributing to local newspapers and magazines. His work is characterized by a vibrant use of color and a dramatic worldview, a legacy of his days in photojournalism and his experience as a director of photography.

With the project "The High Tide," Chaskielberg delved into the world of the Paraná River Delta, a region near Buenos Aires, documenting the lives of the river community. The Paraná River, one of South America's giant rivers, flows through Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina, sustaining millions of lives. By living for two years on the Delta islands, Chaskielberg shared the daily lives of the inhabitants, deeply immersing himself in their ways of life and work.

His unique method of shooting exclusively at night, combined with the use of long exposures, allows the full moon's light to become an essential element in his compositions, illuminating scenes while Delta residents pose motionless for up to ten minutes. This approach not only highlights the natural beauty and culture of the region but also showcases Chaskielberg's ability to capture moments of serenity and deep connection with his surroundings.
