Renato Meziat, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1952, began his artistic journey in music, studying at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, United States, in the 1970s. Upon returning to Brazil, his curiosity for painting led him to experiment and discover a natural passion for this art form. Though self-taught, Meziat developed an impressive technical proficiency through years of trial and error and deep observation.

Training his eye, Meziat began to study the work of other painters, focusing on the New Latin American Realism of the 1970s, represented by artists like Chilean Claudio Bravo and Cuban-American Julio Larraz. This study led him to the grand realism of Spanish art, harking back to masters like Velázquez and Bodegón.

Initially, Meziat dedicated himself to a variety of subjects, including portraits and landscapes, but it was his still lifes that brought him recognition. His paintings reveal meticulous technical knowledge and a detailed pictorial vision. Meziat is not just interested in the mere observation of these aspects but wishes his work to evoke emotions in people similarly to how music, his first passion, does. He states, "I don't want to make people think. I want to create canvases so beautiful that when people look at them, they can't think of anything else."

To create his new canvases, Meziat draws inspiration from observing the world around him and uses photography as a working tool. His work is not a mere reproduction of a photo but a suggestion of the real existence of the objects depicted.
