Zenilda Petuba

Zenilda Petuba

Brazil - 1963

Daughters of Marinete, the Petuba sisters Zenilda, Zenaide and Zeneide were born in Arapiraca, Alagoas. Marinete began working as a seamstress and starting sewing dolls together for her daughters. The three girls then began producing their own works, sculpting rocks, in 1993, taught by Zezito Guedes. The family took the dolls they were producing to the Artenor fair in Maceió, Brazil and found commercial success. This served as an incentive for the family to continue their work with fabric and embroidery, which they continue to date. The Petuba family creates paintings and panels with embroidery on canvas, with pieces of fabric, they usually talk about childhood and scenes of the rural area they come from. The works stand out due to the rare balance between composition, perspective and color choice.
