Floriano Teixeira

Floriano de Araújo Teixeira mas a Brazilian painter, illustrator and set designer born in Cajapió, Brazil in 1923. He passed away in Salvador, Brazil in the year 2000. He began his studies in drawing in 1935, taught by Rubens Damasceno in 1935. In 1940 Teixeira began studying painting with José Lázaro de Figueiredo. In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s Teixeira helped found a series of independent artist groups, creating friendships with artist such as Antonio Bandeira and Siqueira.

In 1962, he organized and directed the Museu de Arte da Universidade Federal do Ceará – UFCE. Teixeira also illustrated a series of books including Dona Flor e seus Dois Maridos, A Morte e a Morte de Quincas Berro D'Água and O Menino Grapiúna all by Jorge Amado.
