Cristina Adam Salgado Guimarães (born in 1957, Rio de Janeiro) is a renowned Brazilian painter, draftsman, sculptor, printmaker, and professor. She holds a degree in genetics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), completed in 1978. Cristina furthered her studies in drawing and painting under the tutelage of prominent artists such as Roberto Magalhães, Rubens Gerchman, and Astréia El-Jaick, and studied lithography with Antonio Grosso at the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage. She completed her master’s degree in communication and culture at the School of Communications of UFRJ. Since 1993, Cristina has been teaching in the Department of Arts and Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC/Rio) and as an assistant professor at the Art Institute of UERJ. In 1991, she was a resident artist at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the United Kingdom, sponsored by the British Council. In 1999, she received the RIOARTE scholarship to develop works in the field of sculpture.
