Clóvis Graciano

Clóvis Graciano is a Brazilian painter, illustrator and set designer, born in 1907 (Araras, São Paulo, Brazil).

He lived and worked in São Paulo, Brazil. After studying painting with Waldemar da Costa, he joins the artists group Santa Helena with Francisco Rebolo, Mario Zanini and Bonadei. In 1939 Graciano is named the president of the Família Artística Paulista. He also participates in the Syndicate for artists. In 1941 he open his first solo exhibition.

Graciano is also a founding partner of the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, Brazil, which opened in 1948. In 1949, the artist goes to Paris where he lives for the next two years. From 1950 onwards, Graciano dedicates his time as artist to develop murals, a technique which he learned in his time in France.

In 1971, he assumes the post as director of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo. Throughout his career, Graciano remained true to his social themes shown figuratively through his work.
