A Journey in Abstraction

Alberto Teixeira, after studying drawing and painting at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon between 1947 and 1950, embarked on a journey that took him to São Paulo, where he honed his skills with Flexor and became a member of the Atelier-Abstraction. Between 1956 and 1958, his stay in Paris brought him closer to the ideals of lyrical abstractionism. Back in Brazil, he dedicated himself to teaching at renowned institutions, including PUC/Campinas and the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters of Araras.

Teixeira also stood out in the exhibition scene, both individually and collectively, with notable participations such as the 2nd Esso Salon of Young Artists and the 2nd São Paulo International Biennial. His works are recognized in various awards, reflecting his mastery in painting. Solo exhibitions at venues like the Contemporary Art Museum of Campinas and the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, as well as international shows, highlight his significance in Brazilian art and beyond. Teixeira, with his contribution to abstractionism and dedication to teaching, leaves an invaluable legacy to the visual arts.
